The Official BBC response to my letter to Greg Dyke
Dear Mr Jaffee
Thank you for your e-mail addressed to the Director General. Due to the volume of correspondence he receives Greg Dyke is unable to answer personally. Once they have been read, letters are forwarded to this department for reply.
This department has a wealth of knowledge about BBC programmes and policies and is experienced in the workings of the Corporation. The Director-General has therefore authorised us to reply on his behalf.
I was sorry to read that you have your reservations about the decision to remove 'EastEnders' from the BBC America schedule and the lack of promotion of the programme by BBC America. While we appreciate the trouble you have taken in contacting us on these matters, I am afraid there is very little we can say in response. I would like to explain that BBC America is a commercial subscription channel run by BBC Worldwide Ltd, a subsidiary company that operates at arm’s length from the BBC. The BBC in the UK is paid for by British TV license payers which means we cannot use this money to provide support services for BBC Worldwide’s commercial channels.
As your comments directly concern BBC America, can I suggest you visit the 'Contact Us' section of their website at:

You may also wish to know that you can write to BBC America at the following address:
BBC America
7475 Wisconsin Avenue
11th Floor
Bethesda
MD 20814
USA
I hope that you will find this contact information useful and, once again, thank you for taking the time to contact the BBC.
Regards
Rory Egan
