Dear "EastEnders" Fans,

Thank you for expressing your interest in keeping "EastEnders" on WLIW21. You will be happy to know the series will remain in our schedule.

The fan campaign to "Save EastEnders" and keep it on WLIW21 - and its success - demonstrates the unique relationship television audiences have with their public broadcaster over local affiliates of the major networks or cable outlets.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for public broadcasting, and applaud those who contributed to the campaign. We will renew our rights to the program for one year.

Decisions regarding our program schedule are made after considerable thought and audience research, and "EastEnders" was not the only long-running series we had decided to remove from the regular lineup for 2005. I hope that the series will continue to enjoy the level of support demonstrated by this campaign in viewership and future fundraising efforts.
