2 More EE Cancellations
SAN JOSE, CA-KTEH, the public TV station here, recently cancelled EastEnders because it did not raise enough funds. "We are not in the position the purchase further rights at this point in time. Management is hoping to address the EastEnders series again in time to air it in the fall of 2003 but at this time this is no guarantee," Jennifer Gustamantes, the station's premium coordinator, told the Walford Gazette.
Shortly after, we learned that Mountain Valley TV, the public television station based in Plattsburgh, NY near the Canadian border, has also dropped the show. The station, which previously went by the call letters WCFE, had aired EastEnders since its U.S. debut in 1988, as had KTEH.
A Mountain Lake spokeswoman said the reason for the cancellation was that the station didn't meet its goal of 220 members who contributed because of EastEnders; it received only 18 members in a year.
NB: Correction from the printed edition: The station that cancelled EastEndes is KTEH, not KOCE
